    Default Alternative to Zpacks

Is there any alternative to zpacks
I’m on a fixed income and need to find a decent tent at a reasonable price

Plenty of options, but if you want something similar to Zpacks at half the price, look at Gossamer Gear. The One is $255, the Two is $320. Similar Zpacks tents are $600 plus.

I have the One. It's light, packs small, and works fine.

There is nothing magical about Zpacks. Just buy what you can afford.

Cottage companies that predate Zpacks are Mountain Laurel Designs, 6 Moon Designs, Tarp Tent, Gossamer Gear, and there are others that have come into existence since then. Part of the high price for UL shelters is the Dynema Composite Fabric (DCF) costs which have gone up in recent years. If you can handle a bit more weight, other UL materials work just fine, which some of the other companies still offer. I'd start with checking Tarp Tent's various models, which use to be the gold standard before DCF tents became popular. You can easily tell which shelters aren't using DCF by the price.

As much as I love some of the cottage gear offerings, there's -nothing- wrong with the less expensive offerings from some of the mainstream manufacturers as an alternative.

I preach all the time, I will take used high end gear over new cheap gear every day of the week.

For one, most of this "used" gear has never see its first 100 miles on trail and what most would consider "used" a long distance hiker on a budget will see the value left in the item for a significant break in cost...

True, and if I can get made in the USA, I'm willing to pay extra for it.
